Can I prep this recipe ahead of time?
You betcha! Prepping food before heading out on a camping trip can make cooking at camp a lot easier, faster, and less messy! Here are some tips on how to prep this recipe:
pre-cut apples into slices and drizzle with lemon juice to prevent browning. Store in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 5 days before using
pre-measure the oats, brown sugar, and nuts and store together in a sealed container
use whipped cream canisters or whip cream at home before heading out to prevent you having to hand whip cream for 20 minutes around the campfire
How do I store leftovers?
Store leftover apples and crisp topping separately in sealed containers. If you store them together, the moisture from the apples with soften the crisp topping and you will lose that delicious crunch. Store in fridge or cooler for 2-3 days. Reheat leftovers in a pan separately.
Enjoy as an easy dessert or sweet breakfast on your next camping trip!
