Camp Stove Loaded Nachos
Yes, you can make nachos on your camp stove! Loaded up with cheese, black beans, corn, bell peppers, avocado, salsa, or whatever else you like. These are a crowd-pleaser!
I’m a big fan of nachos while camping because they’re 1) super easy and quick 2) easy to make a small portion or a large portion for a group 3) can be simple cheese nachos OR super creative and loaded with whatever toppings you can think of!
Before now, I would use my cast iron dutch oven to bake the nachos over the campfire, which is delicious! Check out my recipe instructions for this at Loaded Dutch Oven Nachos.
But you don’t necessarily need to have a dutch oven to bake nachos, you can also make them right over your camp stove! All you need a camp stove, a sturdy pan, and some form of lid to cover the pan to trap the heat and melt the cheese. You can use another pan flipped upside down, a baking tray, or a lid from a different pot. I used a baking tray in this case.
The Toppings
Let your imagination guide you! There’s many topping options you could try, like steak nachos, chicken, shrimp (never tried it but sounds delicious!), straight veggies, multi-cheese, etc.
Tips
Make sure the black beans and corn are drained well. If not, they will make the nacho chips soggy as they cook.
Be careful how many fresh veg ingredients you add before cooking. Things like tomatoes, banana peppers, avocado, can release water when cooked and you’ll run into the same problem as above - soggy nachos. Not yum.
Cook on a LOW heat. When cooking on the stovetop, your heat source is only coming from the bottom, so it takes some time to get the heat to rise, get trapped by the lid, and melt the cheese. The low heat will prevent the bottom from burning before the cheese is nice and melted.
