Easy Homemade Peanut Butter Cups
The perfect snack for any chocolate-peanut butter lover!
One of my favourite candy bars growing up was Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Who am I kidding, they’re still one of my favourites! The chocolate-peanut butter combo is a match made in heaven if you ask me.
I actually had a Reese’s peanut butter cup last week and right after I thought to myself, “why can’t I make these myself??” So here you go, an easy homemade peanut butter cup recipe for ya!
Best enjoyed straight out of the fridge or taken as a snack for cold winter activities outside (they start to soften at room temp!).
These come together with only 3 ingredients and in just a few simple steps!
Step 1: melt chocolate chips in the microwave or using a double boiler over the stove until chocolate is smooth.
Step 2: line muffin tins with paper or silicon muffin liner. Spoon ~2 tsp melted chocolate into the muffin tin (just enough to cover the bottom).
Step 3: mix together peanut butter and powdered sugar in a small bowl. Spoon ~1 tsp onto the chocolate layer in each muffin tin.
Step 4: cover peanut butter layer with ~2 tsp melted chocolate. Sprinkle with desired toppings (eg. coconut flakes, crushed peanuts, slivered almonds, sea salt).
Step 5: place in refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow to set.
Step 6: Enjoy!
Pro Tip: these do start to soften if left at room temperature or handled a lot (warmth from your hands will melt the chocolate). For the least mess, enjoy straight out of the fridge.
Note: I used normal size muffin tins for this recipe. You could also use mini muffin tins for smaller, more bite-sized peanut butter cups.
