Dark Chocolate Coconut Mocha

Happy December 1st, friends! I think it’s safe to say the Christmas holiday season is here! And what better way to get into the holiday spirit than to enjoy a warm yummy mocha snuggled up in a blanket?
This dark chocolate mocha is rich and creamy - perfect for sipping around the fire, while you’re setting up your Christmas tree, or whatever your favourite holiday tradition is.
The milk
I chose to use coconut milk for this mocha because it adds so much creaminess and delicious sweet coconut flavour. If you’re not a fan of coconut, you can easily swap out for whatever milk you enjoy. A QUICK NOTE: the higher the fat content, the creamier and richer the mocha will be. So if you’re wanting something extra creamy, choose whole milk or something similar.
The chocolate
I love dark chocolate so naturally I chose dark chocolate chips. You can just as easily use semi-sweet chocolate chips to give a bit more sweetness. You could also add a little more sugar if you find the mocha isn’t to your sweetness-liking.
The coffee
For this recipe I used Javy Coffee Concentrate, which is great for making quick drinks or adding to any type of baking! The mocha
It’s really quite simple to pull together! Just add all the ingredients together in a medium pot (I used my Jetboil Mini Mo stove) and heat together on medium-low heat. Make sure to stir well to prevent the chocolate from burning on the bottom!
Heat until steaming (not boiling) and then turn off the heat. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or whatever you like with your hot chocolate/mochas!

Dark Chocolate Coconut Mocha
Ingredients
- 2 cups (500ml) coconut milk or other milk
- 2 Tbsp (15g) cocoa powder
- 1-2 Tbsp (12-24g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (40g) dark chocolate chips
- 2-4 tsp (10-20ml) Javy coffee concentrate OR 2-4 shots of espresso OR 1/4 cup (60ml) brewed coffee
- whipping cream (optional)
- mini marshmallows (optional)
Instructions
- Mix together milk, cocoa powder, sugar, chocolate chips and Javy coffee concentrate in a medium pot over medium-low heat and heat until scalding, but not boiling. Make sure to stir often to prevent burning or sticking to the bottom.
- Once mocha is steaming, pour into two mugs and top with whipping cream, marshmallows or whatever you wish!
