If you’re strapped for time this Christmas holiday (hello all my last minute Christmas shoppers) and scrambling to figure out a fun dessert for your Christmas party, this recipe is for you! It’s extremely simple and uses only a handful of ingredients. Easy to make in your backyard or indoors on your stove.

If you’ve been on this site before, you’ve probably seen my Easiest Camping Donuts recipe, and this is pretty much the same but adding a few Christmasy spices to make it a little more festive.

Ingredients

All you need is:

  • pre-made biscuit dough (like Pillsbury). Alternatively you could use your own biscuit dough recipe but obviously that will be a tad more work when outdoors

  • canola oil or other oil for deep frying. NOTE: please plan ahead to dispose of the used oil properly. DO NOT pour onto the ground or into a water source. Let cool, transfer to a sealable container (I used the empty oil bottle), and pack out. TIP: if you plan on deep frying again soon after, you can store the oil in a cool place and use again. Read more about reusing oil, here.

  • sugar and cinnamon for coating the fried donuts. Alternatively, you could use powdered sugar, melted chocolate, or whatever else you may like on your donut!

  • “Christmasy spices” like ground ginger, ground clove, or all-spice. Use a pinch of each if you desire.

Instructions & Tips

  1. Heat oil to 350F in a medium-large pot. TIP: if you don’t have a thermometer, you can check the temperature of the oil using the back of a wooden spoon. Once there’s small bubbles forming on the spoon, you’re ready to fry!

  2. Carefully punch a hole through the middle of the biscuit dough with your thumb and form into a ring.

  3. Gently transfer donuts to the hot oil. Fry donuts until golden brown on both sides. Remove and let oil drain for a moment before rolling in cinnamon sugar. TIP: Don’t drop them in otherwise you make get splashed with hot oil (NOT recommended).

Note: Please dispose of leftover oil properly. Let cool and drain into separate container and pack out. DO NOT pour onto ground or into water source.
