Croissant pizza rolls using the Omnia Oven on a camp stove

Are you a fan of pizza? What about easy camping meals that come together with little stress and effort but deliver with big flavour? If you answered yes to either of these, keep reading!

Cooking with the Omnia oven

This recipe was created using an Omnia Oven and an Eureka SPRK Camp Stove. I received an Omnia from my wonderful mother-in-law as a birthday gift this year and couldn't wait to get cooking with it!

What is an Omnia Oven?

The Omnia is a portable oven that uses heat from a camp stove or other heat source to bake foods much like a normal household oven would. If you can cook or bake it in a normal oven, you most likely can bake it in an Omnia!

The oven itself is simple, lightweight, easy to use and seriously versatile! You can buy different accessories to go along with the oven, like the silicone insert and thermometer seen in the photos (I would HIGHLY recommend getting the silicone insert as it prevents the food from sticking and makes cleaning up a breeze!).

What I absolutely love about an Omnia is that you don’t need a campfire or coals to cook your food. Up until now, I have mostly been using cast iron over the campfire to bake things like cinnamon buns, nachos, or skillets, which I love, but cast iron is heavy and hard to pack if you’re limited on space and weight.

Also, if you are in an area where there’s a fire ban but still want to enjoy your baked lasagna, fresh bread, or yummy cinnamon buns, an Omnia is your new best friend! As long as you have a camp stove, you’re good to go!

Okay, so now the food!

This recipe is more of an inspiration or a starting point for many delicious and creatives ways you could go! I’ve included two different “pizza rolls” but there’s really endless flavour combinations you could try! Whatever you like on a pizza, try it in these croissant rolls!

All your favourite pizza flavours wrapped up in a flaky croissant roll - ready in no time for a quick and easy lunch or snack!

Ingredients

  • 1 package ready-to-bake croissant dough (e.g. Pillsbury crescents)
  • 2-3 Tbsp (30-45mL) pizza sauce
  • your favourite pizza toppings (examples below)
Classic Ham & Cheese (makes 4 medium crescents)
  • 1-2 Tbsp (15-30mL) pizza sauce
  • 2 slices baked ham
  • 1/4 cup (50g) cheddar or mozzarella cheese
Spinach & Mushroom (makes 4 medium crescents)
  • 1-2 Tbsp (15-30mL) pizza sauce
  • 4 white or cremini mushrooms, sliced and sautéed
  • handful or two of fresh spinach, sautéed
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup (50g) mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fillings (slice or grate cheese, sauté vegetables, etc.) and set aside.
  2. Unroll croissant dough and spread a small spoonful of pizza sauce on each. Add desired toppings.
  3. Roll up by starting from the wide end of the dough. Place in Omnia silicone insert. The croissants can be touching but will bake together slightly. If you want to keep them completely separate, leave 2 inches between croissants.
  4. Turn your camp stove onto medium-low heat, place Omnia on top and cook with the lid on for 10-15 minutes.* Be careful not to cook on a high heat, this will cause the bottoms to burn before the croissants are fully cooked through.

Notes

*If using a normal household oven, prepare the croissants same as above. Follow baking instructions on package of croissant dough for temperature and timing (e.g. 350F for 10-15 minutes)
